So About This New Blog

This past Monday, I put Bix Dot Blog on an indefinite and somewhat indeterminate hiatus. That blog is where I’ve not only been posting but also slowly (so very, very slowly) been trying to restore over twenty years of blogging from across more than a dozen different sites and services.

What you see here itself is somewhat indefinite and indeterminate. Will I just continue to blog here, or will I at some point return to Bix Dot Blog? Will I somehow manage to do both, despite the claustrophobia of that sort of indecision and split personality? I have no more idea of the answers to these questions than you do.

At any rate, this blog returns me to the weblog.lol service, and is powered by the simple omg.lol API, which I use to post from a matching set of custom Apple Shortcuts, one for each post type: Link, Note, Photo, and Status. The latter, in fact, runs through the status.lol service which utilizes Fluent emoji to generate a background color. While I’m not using the emoji here, that is where and how the different background colors on status posts originate.

(For what it’s worth, the particular shade of blue behind Note posts is the background color generated from the Memo emoji, while the gray at the bottom of Photo posts is the color generated from the Camera emoji.)

While the site is up and running and I’m posting to it, it’s not necessarily entirely settled. There are some thing that weblog.lol does not yet do, and the current URL scheme for posts that hangs directly off the domain is temporary.

This entire thing is basically experimental, and I’m trying not to get caught up too much in what it “means” as such. It will be what it will be, and be what I make of it. Anything else I guess will just be discovered along the way.
