Old, Older, Oldest
Chris at the new year has been adding old posts to his blog, inspiring Robb to do the same. The former’s earliest post in this process dates to May of 2002, while the latter found one from July of 2009. My interest here should be obvious, as this site is destined eventually to hold as much of my blogging as I can find, and my own earliest-known post already has made its way over: it’s from March of 2002.
Chris:
In a case of history repeating itself not once - but three times! - I’ve been working through the process of adding “historical” blog posts to my blog. These are posts I have written on previous iterations of my blog, in this case on several different domains, and stretch back over 20 years. Most of the earliest posts have been pulled from The Internet Archive, because younger me didn’t think about backups - not that any I’d taken would have lasted this long!
Robb:
The earliest posts I could think of were when I was writing reviews of various iPhone apps for iPhoneWorld.ca in 2009. Sadly the site has been offline a long time so I fired up the internet archive and managed to find 14 of those reviews. It’s a goldmine of glorious pre-iOS7 design, check out all the posts with the #iPhoneWorldCA tag.
You’ll notice from Chris’ earliest post that he’s also added a disclaimer, something I also implemented earlier last year although his is more involved. He also mentions not editing those old posts, something several of us were discussing last March.
It’s been an interesting couple of years, as many bloggers who blogged essentially uninterrupted in one place hit milestones (including my mother), and their anniversary posts inevitably make me feel somewhat lesser because I’ve moved my blogging around so much in these twenty-four years. In the sidebar here you can find a dropdown of fifteen sources but that’s only sources that have had at least one post brought in—the current count of sources to which I believe I still have some kind of access actually is thirty-nine.
My work on the restoration project has been stalled for months, in part because I couldn’t seem to get myself settled into place in terms of blog theme and custom functionality, and in part because I’m trying to decide on some methods and practices going forward. My site footer always will have the most up-to-date information on what source I’m working on at any given time.
