Goodbye, Photography Hobby
So, I did manage to haul myself out of bed at an ungodly-for-me hour to hop public transit all the way across town to the zoo for Nora and Amelia Gray’s (observed) birthdays, and exhausted myself into the ground taking nearly 800 photos with the D5300.
Unfortunately, my old MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015) doesn’t have enough space to pull them off the SD card, and there isn’t anything I can clear out to make the room.
My plan today was to blog about the zoo trip and then the autistic samefood clusterfuck at my local Safeway on the way home, and then some brief bafflement at a family communication that was inconsistent with other recent family communications, but instead I’ll just be posting this: a farewell post to my longstanding if occasionally intermittent photography hobby, except for whatever I take on my phone.
In fact, that’s all the stomach I have for posting anything at all today. It just goes to show: no matter how much I catastrophize to prepare myself for the inevitable downward slide of my life, there’s always some particular downward slide that for some reason I failed entirely to anticipate.
This is why I don’t typically bother with posts like this one from the other day: good feeling doesn’t last, so why bother marking it.

I mean, not to put too fine a point on that last but I basically wrecked myself to get out there and take these photos, and all for absolutely nothing. My fastest turnaround from high to low maybe ever, and I don’t have the resources to waste like that.

Also, in case you’ve forgotten, this is after discovering earlier this year that I’d lost access to a decade’s worth of photos.
-
I’m so completely drained just from the effort it took to go to the zoo at all, that this laptop issue preventing me from doing anything with these photos is like pouring salt onto a psyche already stripped bare.

It’s worth reading or re-reading this post from just a few months ago.

The day after: I’ve found enough in the way of extraneous files to free up enough space to get these photos imported (thanks, two year-old iPad backups I no longer need), but at some point if I keep shooting DSLR I’ll just be right back here again.
