Profound Autism: A Retraction
Late in 2021, I responded if not with exuberance then with acquiescence to the proposed “profound autism” label, an opinion I’ve referenced more than once. As of this post, I renounce and reject that position.
Since I’ve linked the relevant posts, I’ll not bother with any sort of rehash of why I took the position I did in the past. There’s no reason to do so. I was wrong. It’s as simple as that.
To understand why the change and why I’m opting to make a public retraction, read the entirety of “Grave Concerns About ‘Profound Autism’ and Diagnostic Overshadowing” over at Thinking Person’s Guide to Autism.
Thanks to my system of internal backlinks, this retraction will be linked at the bottom of each of the above-linked earlier posts. I regret the error in judgment.
